Our story...
For many years Dan and Sarah have wanted to bring their passions of farming, Christian faith, and well-being, together in a practical way. Dan and Sarah moved to Spring Farm in 2019, which provided a base for this to become a reality. Longstanding friends of Dan and Sarah’s, Tim and Becca Cracknell also had a dream to create a safe welcoming space for people to be creative together, learning to make and fix things, to be accepted and introduced to faith in Jesus and so the two coupled team set up a Community Interest Company and sited a portable cabin on the farm in Ash in 2020.
With Tim's background in youth work and building, Becca’s in nursing, Dan’s experience in farming and Sarah’s background in social work, the team moved forwards with The Maker’s Place...a place to make, mend and grow together.
Throughout the setup and running of The Maker’s Place there have been amazing ongoing answers to prayer and provision.
The Maker’s Place is set within the working Spring Farm; it consists of a portable cabin with a lean to wood canopy and a small vegetable patch. The craft cabin is well located with parking close by and views across fields leading to Montacute and Ham Hill.
The team desires to see the land used to serve God and others practically. Spring Farm has been used in this way for generations past. The team wants others, particularly those finding life tough (don’t we all sometimes?), to find wholeness and benefit holistically (physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually) in this therapeutic, peaceful place.
Over time the team has been growing and changing. After four incredible years with The Maker’s Place Tim, and Becca have moved on to be more active with their making and craft activities in the community. We have been so blessed by all they have poured into The Maker’s Place and look forward to seeing what they get up to next!
We are thrilled now to have the wonderful Sarah Horder and Ian Bramley on the team!
Sarah H comes with a wealth of experience, skills and knowledge from a longstanding fostering career and leadership work at Yeovil Community Church. Sarah is hugely creative and loves arts and crafts. She has been working with teenagers at The Maker’s Place and brings a whole heap of love, understanding, fun and creativity.
Ian has been working with The Maker’s Place for six months now: his background in the NHS and charity work is very helpful to ensuring The Maker’s Place is governed well and working in a professional manner, keeping the community at the heart of all we do.
